Role Description This full-time, on-site Level 3 Application/Software Architect (Legacy) role is based in Ottawa, ON. The architect will lead the design and evolution of legacy applications in PHP, Java, or C/C++ environments, ensuring scalable, secure, and maintainable architectures aligned with client and government standards. Day-to-day responsibilities include analyzing existing systems, defining architectural blueprints, guiding refactoring and modernization efforts, and recommending frameworks, patterns, and tools that support long-term stability. The role involves collaborating with developers, project managers, and business stakeholders, reviewing technical designs and code, and providing mentorship on best practices for software architecture, design, and programming. The architect will also support integration with financial, CRM, data warehouse, and reporting systems, contributing to solution planning, risk assessment, and technical documentation.
Qualifications
• Strong skills in Software Architecture and Software Design for complex, legacy enterprise systems.
• Proficiency in Software Development and Programming in PHP, Java, or C/C++.
• Applied experience with Design Patterns and modern architectural practices (e.g., layered, modular, service-oriented approaches).
• Experience working with legacy systems, refactoring, and modernization in large-scale environments.
• Understanding of integration with financial systems, CRM, data warehousing, and Business Intelligence solutions.
• Ability to create clear architectural documentation, technical standards, and implementation guidelines.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills for working with cross-functional teams and clients.
• Post-secondary degree or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; relevant certifications (e.g., TOGAF, PMP, ITIL) are an asset.
• Experience in public-sector or government IT projects is considered beneficial.
