Overview
Agilus by Synergie is recruiting for an Electrical Engineer III in the Oil and Gas Sector in North York, Ontario. The candidate will work closely with company project execution teams to vet designs submitted by contractors to ensure compliance with specifications, codes and standards. The role requires technical expertise in medium and high voltage electrical systems and will engage and manage internal and external technical subject matter experts from all disciplines during design, construction and commissioning.
Compensation: $80.00 per hour
Duration: 3–6 month assignment to cover a short‑term leave period
Location Preference: North York, ON (Calgary and Edmonton are also potential locations, but North York is preferred)
Work Model: Hybrid – Mon, Tues, Thurs in office; Weds, Fri at home
Responsibilities
• Ensure the technical requirements of the business unit are incorporated into the design and commissioning of the renewable projects developed and constructed by the company, including medium and high voltage systems.
• Provide expertise on wind, solar and battery energy storage systems during the development of technical requirement documents, equipment specifications, facility design and turnover activities.
• Review technical documents submitted by contractors and vendors to ensure compliance with specifications, codes and standards.
• Provide guidance for system configuration, equipment selection and other project design features to ensure compliance with technical requirement documents.
• Assist the development team in creating equipment datasheets for procurement.
• Participate in technical meetings with contractors and vendors during project development and construction to clarify technical requirements.
• Resolve technical issues relating to technical requirement documents, codes and standards during execution.
• Liaise with other stakeholders to incorporate necessary requirements into the technical requirement documents.
• Define quality, commissioning and startup attributes, including inspection, care and maintenance during storage, documentation, check‑out, pre‑commissioning and pre‑energization.
• Provide technical support during negotiation of EPC and supply contracts.
• Support team members on technical subjects related to the candidate’s expertise.
• Execute other assignments and responsibilities as requested.
Qualifications
• Professional designation (P.Eng or PE) is required.
• 7+ years of relevant experience in the design, construction and commissioning of renewable projects, including wind, solar and battery energy storage systems.
• Expertise in DC and AC electrical systems (distribution to transmission level) and automated control of the power plants.
• Experience in transacting with project teams during design to ensure review activities are completed timely, gathering input from internal and external technical subject matter experts.
• Strong interpersonal and written communication skills with stakeholders at all levels.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering documents, contract documents, supplier documents and installation procedures.
• Experience with equipment installation methods, interconnection requirements, grid compliance testing and SCADA system design is an asset.
• Proven knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards for renewable power generation projects.
• High computer and technology competency – proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Teams and other enterprise systems.
• Ability to work independently with minimal oversight, prioritizing and delivering on key initiatives.
