The Role As Senior Engineer, Total Fund Management Technology, you will design, build, test, and support technology solutions that enable portfolio construction, monitoring, analytics, and Total Fund Management decision-making. Working closely with investment professionals, Product Managers, and technology teams, you will translate business needs into practical, reliable, and scalable technology solutions while applying engineering best practices and contributing to continuous improvement, innovation, and technical excellence. The Team Risk & Total Fund Management Technology supports technology capabilities that enable CPP Investments’ enterprise-level investment and risk management activities. Within the department, the Total Fund Management Technology team supports the investment structures and processes used to manage CPP Investments’ Total Portfolio, collaborating across investment, risk, operations, product, and technology teams. The TFM PM Engineering team builds platforms and analytical capabilities that enable portfolio construction, monitoring, and decision-making at scale. Accountabilities Design, build, test, and support technology solutions and enhancements that enable business capabilities, working independently within an Agile environment. Develop backend, data-centric, and user-facing solutions supporting portfolio construction, monitoring, analytics, and Total Fund Management decision-making. Partner with Product Managers, investment professionals, and technology teams to understand portfolio management needs and translate them into practical, reliable, and scalable technology solutions. Apply engineering best practices and contribute to continuous improvement through coaching, knowledge sharing, experimentation, early feedback, and adoption of new technologies. Build an understanding of the technical landscape and supported business capabilities to critically assess requests, frame problems, and develop well-reasoned recommendations. Support operational reliability by facilitating root-cause analysis of incidents, adhering to Agile software development lifecycle practices, and applying appropriate testing, observability, and engineering standards. Foster collaboration, mentorship, feedback, and professional growth while maintaining strong relationships with business partners, peer technology teams, and vendor partners. What You Bring Undergraduate degree or college diploma in a related field, such as Engineering or Computer Science. 5+ years of relevant experience in software engineering or a related technology discipline. Extensive experience with programming languages such as Python, C++, or Java, with the ability to write clean, readable, well-documented code. Strong understanding of software development practices, including version control, testing methodologies, Agile development, and coding standards. Exposure to cloud technologies, preferably AWS, and modern DevOps practices including CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and operational reliability. Exposure to AI-assisted development practices, LLM-based coding assistants, or agent-based automation workflows. Exposure to capital markets, investment management, portfolio management, data-intensive analytical platforms, frontend or visualization technologies, or Infrastructure as Code is an asset.
