About this role

About the Role We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing new and retrofit lighting products from concept through production release. You will collaborate closely with customers, vendors, and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, manufacturable designs that meet customer requirements and industry standards. Key Responsibilities • Develop complex 3D models, assemblies, customer drawings, and production drawings using SolidWorks. • Create, review, and maintain 2D drawings in accordance with GD&T standards. • Design new and retrofit lighting fixtures from concept development through production release. • Develop and maintain bills of materials (BOMs), design documentation, design standards, templates, and workflows. • Collaborate with customers and vendors to ensure designs meet technical, functional, and regulatory requirements. • Evaluate and implement design improvements based on feedback from internal and external stakeholders. • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance products, processes, and design practices. • Design products that comply with material declarations, fire/smoke/toxicity requirements, and applicable regional and international standards. • Conduct design reviews and verify compliance with customer specifications, industry standards, and internal procedures. • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior designers, including task coordination and performance support when required. • Collaborate with Electrical Engineers to integrate PCBAs, thermal management solutions, and wiring harnesses into mechanical assemblies and enclosures. • Maintain accurate project documentation and reports. • Ensure compliance with all company policies and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations. Qualifications & Experience • 1-3+ years of experience as a Mechanical Designer or in a related mechanical engineering role. • Experience in manufacturing, assembly, and process engineering environments. • Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, CATIA, Inventor, Creo (Pro/ENGINEER), or Solid Edge. SolidWorks experience is strongly preferred. • Advanced SolidWorks skills, particularly in: • Sheet metal design • Injection molding • Die casting • Extrusion design • Strong understanding of GD&T, Design for Manufacturability (DFM), and manufacturing best practices. • Hands-on experience with prototype development, testing, and validation. • Knowledge of manufacturing processes including: • Machining • Injection molding • Die casting • Metal extrusion • Plastic extrusion • Experience integrating electronic components into mechanical designs, including PCBAs, heatsinks, and wiring harnesses. • Experience working with ERP systems is considered an asset. • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and innovative thinking skills. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities effectively. Education • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, OR • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, OR • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mississauga, ON. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $34.00/hr.
