About the Role Our client, an award-winning organic farm dedicated to sustainable practices and the cultivation of specialty crops, is looking for an experienced and passionate Farm Operations Manager in the Markham, Ontario, CA area. This role is central to overseeing the day-to-day management of the farm, ensuring efficient and high-quality production of diverse organic produce. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience in organic farming methods, crop management, team leadership, and a strong commitment to ecological stewardship. You will be responsible for managing all aspects of cultivation, harvesting, pest and disease control, and staff supervision, contributing directly to the farm's success and its mission of providing wholesome, sustainably grown food to the community. Key Responsibilities Oversee all daily farming activities, including planting, cultivation, irrigation, and harvesting of specialty organic crops in Markham . Develop and implement crop production plans, ensuring adherence to organic certification standards. Manage and mentor a team of farm workers, assigning tasks, providing training, and ensuring safe working practices. Implement effective organic pest and disease management strategies, focusing on preventative measures and ecological balance. Monitor soil health and implement appropriate organic soil fertility management practices. Ensure efficient use of resources, including water, energy, and materials. Oversee harvest operations to ensure timely and high-quality collection of produce. Maintain detailed farm records, including planting dates, yields, inputs, and labor. Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to ensure alignment between production and market demands. Contribute to continuous improvement of farming techniques and operational efficiency. Requirements A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in organic farm operations management or a closely related field. In-depth knowledge of organic farming principles, techniques, and certification requirements. Proven experience in managing crop production cycles for a variety of fruits, vegetables, or other specialty crops. Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide farm crews. Hands-on experience with farm equipment operation and maintenance. Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. Knowledge of sustainable agricultural practices and environmental stewardship. Familiarity with the agricultural landscape and growing conditions in the Ontario region. Good communication and problem-solving abilities. Relevant agricultural education or certification is an asset.
