Position Summary
The Human Resources Specialist manages projects relating to assigned human resources functions. This role is responsible for creating, maintaining, and updating records related to associate information such as personal data, compensation, benefits, tax data, performance reviews and evaluations, termination dates and reason for termination. The HR Specialist provides information to associates regarding policies, addresses a variety of issues, and provides general support for the business units and leadership teams.
Responsibilities
• Handle and provide support for various HR associate programs within the organization.
• Respond to written and verbal inquiries from a variety of internal and external sources.
• Provide administrative support to the human resources function as needed; maintain personnel files in compliance with applicable record‑keeping requirements.
• Keep records up-to-date by processing associate status changes in the Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) in a timely manner.
• Provide HR generalist services to internal clients including compensation, benefits, payroll expertise, employee relations, performance management, staffing, succession planning, employee development, compliance, policy development, disability management, and other national‑level project work.
• Assist managers with counseling and discipline processes, and work with divisions to deliver employee engagement strategies and ensure the Open Door Policy is effective.
• Develop action plans to deliver strong fill rates and proactive manpower planning strategies.
• Determine training gaps and collaborate with directors and partners to develop training and development plans for teams and individuals.
• Administer all HR policies in collaboration with partners to ensure consistency, compliance, and participate in legal proceedings as required.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety policies and practices, and communicate processes to employees.
Qualifications
• Fluent in French and English (verbal and written).
• Minimum three (3) years of experience supporting a Human Resources department.
• Post‑secondary education in Human Resources or a related field.
• CHRP/CHRL designation is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• CHRP designation attained or in progress.
• Active member of a provincial HR association.
Skills and Abilities
• 3–5 years of experience at a Human Resources Specialist level.
• Experience in sales, marketing, agency, retail, or consumer packaged goods industry.
• Experience with Oracle HRMS system (asset).
• Experience with employment standards across provinces.
• Strong communication and relationship building skills.
• Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making competencies.
• Intermediate/expert HRMS and Excel skills.
