Financial Analyst – Retail Banking
Location: Toronto, ON – Hybrid, 3 days per week onsite, with potential for 4 days
Duration: 12-month contract
Hours: Monday–Friday, standard business hours
Extension/Conversion: Potential for extension and permanent conversion
Our client, a leading financial services organization, is seeking a Financial Analyst to support a Canadian Retail Banking team responsible for portfolios across personal deposits and retail lending.
The ideal candidate will bring 4–6 years of relevant financial analysis experience, with strong hands-on capabilities in financial modeling, data analysis, advanced Excel, and executive-level reporting. This role requires someone who can quickly understand existing financial models and processes, investigate data and reporting requests, and adapt to changing business priorities.
The successful candidate will also support a key transformation initiative focused on transitioning existing financial processes and models to a cloud-based planning solution.
Key Responsibilities
• Maintain, update, and analyze financial and data models supporting retail banking portfolios.
• Perform monthly model rollovers, data ingestion, validation, and reconciliation to ensure accuracy and alignment with business requirements.
• Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, anomalies, and key business insights.
• Partner with senior managers and business stakeholders to understand requirements and implement model or reporting updates.
• Prepare and update financial reports, management presentations, and business review materials using Excel and PowerPoint.
• Respond to ad hoc requests by retrieving, analyzing, and interpreting information from existing financial models, databases, and reporting sources.
• Conduct day-to-day investigations into financial data and provide timely analysis to business stakeholders.
• Generate recurring and ad hoc reports for distribution across various business groups.
• Support transformation initiatives by helping translate existing financial models and processes into a cloud-based planning environment.
• Collaborate with project and technology teams throughout model migration and transformation activities.
• Contribute to ad hoc projects and broader team priorities as required.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• 4–6 years of relevant Financial Analyst, FP&A, financial modeling, or related finance experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with financial modeling and data analysis.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, functions, and manipulation of large datasets.
• Strong proficiency with PowerPoint, including preparation of clear, professional financial and management presentations.
• Strong analytical and investigative skills with the ability to identify issues, analyze variances, and develop practical solutions.
• Ability to work with existing financial models and quickly understand complex data and business processes.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Flexible, adaptable, and comfortable taking ownership of responsibilities beyond a narrowly defined portfolio.
• Ability to ramp up quickly and contribute with minimal supervision.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
• Experience with Power BI and/or SQL for data analysis and reporting.
• Experience within banking or financial services, particularly Retail Banking.
• Exposure to FP&A, financial planning, forecasting, portfolio management, or business performance reporting.
• Experience with Anaplan or another enterprise planning/cloud-based financial modeling platform.
• Previous involvement in financial transformation, model migration, or process modernization initiatives.
