About the position
Clio is seeking a meticulous Accounting Manager for an 18-month contract to cover a leave. This role is crucial for ensuring financial records are accurate and supported by scalable, best-in-class financial processes as Clio expands its global operations. The Accounting Manager will oversee the general ledger, consolidated reporting, and the month-end close process. This is a player-coach role, involving team leadership and hands-on technical accounting research and policy design. The position offers an opportunity to architect standard operating procedures for a high-growth SaaS company, bridge operational accounting with technical compliance, and contribute to building a world-class accounting function.
Responsibilities
• Mentor, develop, and manage a small team of junior and intermediate accountants, ensuring they have the necessary skills, guidance, and opportunities.
• Manage the general ledger accounting operations and month-end close function for the parent and international subsidiaries, ensuring adherence to deadlines.
• Perform detailed review of operations and provide feedback to the team.
• Manage financial reporting, including completion of note disclosure checklists, maintenance of the ASU matrix, and drafting of financial statement notes and disclosures.
• Support the annual consolidated external audit process and lead statutory audits for international subsidiaries, acting as the primary liaison for local auditors.
• Identify potential technical accounting issues, conduct research, and develop/document accounting policies.
• Design end-to-end standard operating and detailed review procedures to ensure high-quality accounting records.
• Identify risks of material misstatement in existing processes, including maintaining accounting policies and owning the Risk and Control Matrix (RCM).
• Lead detailed analysis of financial results, including monthly flux analysis and quarterly analytics.
• Lead project management initiatives for the accounting function, including software implementation for automation and efficiencies.
• Serve as the finance representative on requirements and compliance for organization-wide product launches.
• Manage the preparation and review of global indirect tax filings (Sales Tax, VAT, GST/HST) across multiple jurisdictions.
• Identify and execute opportunities to drive efficiency, accuracy, and impact across accounting and financial transacting aspects.
• Liaise with cross-departmental stakeholders on finance, accounting, internal control, or tax matters.
Requirements
• CPA designation is required.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong working knowledge of US GAAP (and/or IFRS) is required.
• Comfortable researching complex accounting topics and writing technical memos.
• Proven experience managing the month-end close process for a multi-entity, global organization.
• Demonstrated experience managing and mentoring a team of accountants.
• Ability to balance review/oversight with individual contributor work.
• Experience working in an environment with robust internal controls.
• Experience with major ERP systems (NetSuite is highly desirable).
• Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to translate accounting impacts to non-finance stakeholders and collaborate effectively across the business.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing competing priorities while maintaining a high attention to detail.
