Backend engineer with Typescript (JD shared below)
Location: Toronto Hybrid 3 days a week
Long Term
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and microservices using TypeScript (Node.js) and Scala on cloud-native infrastructure
• Architect and implement GraphQL APIs — schema design, resolvers, subscriptions, and federation — for seamless data access across distributed systems
• Collaborate with product, frontend, and platform engineering teams to define API contracts, data models, and service boundaries
• Drive technical design discussions, architecture reviews, and engineering best practices across the team
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and ensure high availability, reliability, and performance of backend systems
• Implement observability — logging, metrics, distributed tracing — using tools such as Splunk, Grafana, Datadog, and OpenTelemetry
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, conduct code reviews, and contribute to raising engineering standards
• Champion security best practices — authentication, authorization, data encryption, and API security — across all services.
• Contribute to the evolution of Intuit's internal developer platform and shared engineering tooling.
Required Qualifications:
8+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong backend focus
• Strong understanding of microservices architecture, event-driven systems, and distributed computing
• Proficiency with REST APIs, API gateway patterns, and service mesh concepts
• Experience with cloud platforms — AWS (Lambda, ECS, SQS, SNS, DynamoDB, S3) or GCP/Azure
• Solid understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases — PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, MongoDB, Redis
• Experience with Kafka or similar message brokers for event-driven architectures
• Strong proficiency in Git, trunk-based development, and modern CI/CD practices (Jenkins, GitHub Actions)
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills
