Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and adaptable Registered Nurse (RN) to join our client's high-volume Emergency Department. The Emergency RN will provide timely, safe, and compassionate care to patients presenting with urgent, emergent, traumatic, medical, surgical, and behavioral health conditions.
The successful candidate must be able to assess and prioritize rapidly changing patient needs, make sound clinical decisions under pressure, initiate emergency interventions, and collaborate effectively with physicians and the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform rapid and comprehensive physical and psychosocial assessments.
• Triage patients based on clinical presentation, acuity, and risk.
• Continuously monitor patients and analyze changes in condition.
• Plan, implement, and evaluate emergency nursing care using the nursing process.
• Recognize life-threatening conditions and initiate immediate nursing interventions.
• Administer medications, intravenous therapies, blood products, and emergency treatments in accordance with College of Nurses of Ontario standards.
• Assist with resuscitation, trauma response, cardiac emergencies, respiratory distress, stroke care, and other critical situations.
• Prepare patients for diagnostic testing, procedures, admission, transfer, or discharge.
• Provide crisis intervention and support to patients and families experiencing acute illness, trauma, behavioral health emergencies, or loss.
• Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, warning signs, and discharge instructions.
• Coordinate discharge planning and referrals to community or follow-up services.
• Collaborate with emergency physicians, paramedics, respiratory therapists, mental health professionals, and other members of the healthcare team.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and legally compliant patient documentation.
• Follow infection-control, privacy, workplace safety, and patient-safety requirements.
• Act in an in-charge, triage, or leadership role when assigned.
• Support team-building, staff orientation, mentoring, and emergency preparedness activities.
• Participate in mock codes, quality improvement, continuing education, and departmental training.
Required Qualifications
• Current Certificate of Registration in good standing as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
• Graduate of an approved nursing education program.
• Strong emergency assessment, crisis intervention, and critical decision-making skills.
• Ability to remain calm and effective during high-stress or rapidly changing situations.
• Ability to prioritize multiple patients in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
• Ability to function independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
• Strong organizational, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Good computer and electronic health record skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
• Recent Emergency Department, urgent care, critical care, or trauma nursing experience.
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification.
• Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification.
• Trauma Nursing Core Course or equivalent trauma education.
• Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course certification.
• Nonviolent crisis intervention or behavioral management training.
• Previous triage, charge nurse, preceptor, or leadership experience.
Pay: $58.98-$62.42 per hour
Licence/Certification:
• Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (required)
• BLS Certification (required)
