Senior Mechanical Engineer – Vancouver, BC
The Lead Mechanical Engineer is responsible for supervising a team of mechanical engineering practitioners, providing leadership and technical guidance on mining and other infrastructure projects. The role supports the Engineering Manager and delivers mechanical discipline excellence across the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of project requirements, scope, cost and schedule.
• Prepare and maintain engineering deliverables, time‑based functions, and work plans for inclusion in the project execution plan.
• Manage and review Engineering Work Packages (EWP) to ensure budgets and schedules are met; take corrective action as needed.
• Provide mechanical schedule and hours forecast inputs for project reporting.
• Review, approve, and author mechanical design criteria documents, engineering standards, and technical deliverables (specifications, datasheets, drawings, vendor evaluations).
• Lead mechanical procurement package management efforts and coordinate mechanical design reviews.
• Assist in the development of project‑specific procedures and establish design tools, software, codes, and standards.
• Assign work tasks via EWPs, monitor progress, and ensure quality of deliverables.
• Represent the mechanical practice in project engineering coordination meetings and promote ethical and professional practices.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and the quality assurance plan throughout the mechanical engineering discipline.
Qualifications and Experience
• B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
• Registered Professional Engineer with Engineers & Geoscientists BC (EGBC) or equivalent provincial registration.
• Experience on large or complex multidisciplinary projects.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with proven ability to mentor team members.
• Excellent deliverable focus, planning capabilities, and understanding of interdisciplinary dependencies.
• Proficiency in procurement, contracting, commissioning methodologies and equipment technology relevant to mining projects.
• Knowledge of 3D data‑centric design systems, engineering management systems, and workflow execution procedures.
Salary and Benefits
Base salary range: $120,000 – $180,000. Total rewards may include performance‑based incentives, comprehensive benefits, and other programs supporting well‑being and career growth.
