About this role
Provides strategic and operational leadership for the Seneca Film Institute (SFI), advancing its mandate as a flagship centre for screen-based education, production, applied learning, and industry engagement. The role leads SFI's vision, external profile, partnerships, and experiential learning ecosystem, ensuring alignment with industry needs, student success, and Seneca Polytechnic's academic and strategic priorities. Working closely with the Chairs of the School of Creative Arts and Animation and the School of Media, the Director represents SFI internally and externally, positioning the Institute as a leading contributor to Ontario's screen industries. The role prioritises equity, diversity, and inclusion in decision-making and the implementation of new initiatives.

Here's some of what your role will involve:
Strategic Leadership and Institute Development
• Lead the strategic direction and ongoing evolution of the Seneca Film Institute (SFI) in alignment with Seneca Polytechnic's academic plan and institutional priorities
• Advance institute-level initiatives that position SFI as a hub for screen-based education, production, innovation, and industry collaboration
• Identify and integrate emerging trends in film, television, streaming, and digital media into institute priorities
• Contribute to long-term planning for facilities, infrastructure, and technology that support SFI's mandate
Industry, Community, and External Engagement
• Build and sustain strategic partnerships with screen-industry organizations, guilds, festivals, cultural institutions, and media companies
• Serve as a senior external representative and advocate for SFI within the creative and screen-based industries
• Advance applied learning opportunities such as internships, residencies, placements, and collaborative productions through industry engagement
• Support sponsorship, philanthropy, and partnership initiatives in collaboration with Advancement and external stakeholders
Applied Learning, Experiential Initiatives, and Production
• Provide oversight of institute-level applied learning initiatives, including productions, showcases, screenings, and industry-facing events
• Champion high-impact experiential learning that enhances student readiness for professional practice
• Collaborate with academic leadership to ensure institute initiatives complement, but do not duplicate, curriculum delivery or academic oversight
• Promote inclusive, ethical, and professional standards across all institute-led activities
Operations, Facilities, and Institutional Collaboration
• Provide strategic oversight of SFI facilities and specialized production infrastructure in collaboration with academic and campus partners
• Ensure effective, equitable, and appropriate use of studios, edit suites, screening spaces, and specialized equipment
• Collaborate with Deans, Chairs, faculty, and professional staff to advance shared priorities and cross-institutional initiatives
• Support governance, reporting, accountability, communications, and reputation-building activities that strengthen SFI's profile locally and internationally
What You Bring to Seneca:
• Demonstrated experience (8+ years) within a post-secondary or academic environment, with a strong understanding of student success and programme delivery
• Proven experience in the film or screen-based industry, with the ability to translate industry practices into meaningful student opportunities
• Established relationships or experience working with studios, industry partners, or creative organisations
• Experience supporting or leading applied learning, productions, or experiential initiatives
• A graduate degree in creative industries, higher education administration, business administration, or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)
• Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively across academic and administrative teams
• A strategic mindset with the ability to align emerging industry trends with institutional priorities
• A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in decision-making and programme delivery

Pay Range: Admin Pay Grade E: $152,818 - $213,944 (Hiring Range: $152,818 - $183,381)
For all Academic/Faculty positions, the compensation step will be determined based on receiving and verifying relevant formal education through official transcripts and relevant work experience, in accordance with the salary placement calculation. For professor positions, we require copies of official transcripts directly from the issuing institution or credential evaluation from World Education Services (WES) or International Credential Assessment Service (ICAS).
