Assistant Operations Manager – Commercial Fishing & Vessel Operations Location: Vancouver, BC Compensation: $70,000 to $85,000 per year depending on experience, plus annual performance bonus, RRSP matching program, and comprehensive benefits package. A well established and respected seafood processing and logistics operation in Vancouver is seeking a motivated Assistant Operations Manager to support commercial fishing vessel coordination, seafood logistics, production, warehousing, and day to day operational activities. This opportunity is specifically intended for someone with direct, hands-on experience working aboard commercial fishing vessels. You may have worked as a commercial fisherman, deckhand, mate, captain, engineer, vessel operator, or crew member aboard active fishing vessels. What matters is that you genuinely understand commercial fishing operations from firsthand experience at sea. General marine, dock, port, container vessel, freight terminal, or warehouse experience alone will not meet the core requirement for this position. For the right person, this is an opportunity to take practical experience from the commercial fishing industry and build a long term career in shoreside operations and leadership. You do not need to come from a traditional corporate management background. What matters is that you understand fishing vessels, fishermen, crews, vessel operations, changing schedules, offloads, seafood movement, and the practical realities of the commercial fishing industry. You should also be motivated to learn the broader operational side of the business and grow into increasing levels of responsibility over time. This is not a desk-only role. You will work across the office, warehouse, processing plant, and dock, helping coordinate vessels, seafood, bait, supplies, production priorities, and day to day operational requirements. What You’ll Be Doing • Support day to day coordination of active commercial fishing vessels and related operational requirements • Communicate directly with commercial fishermen, captains, vessel operators, crews, suppliers, freight providers, warehouse personnel, production teams, and company leadership • Coordinate deliveries and movement of seafood, bait, supplies, equipment, and materials between fishing vessels, docks, warehouses, and processing facilities • Help coordinate vessel arrivals, offloads, dockside activity, and changing operational priorities • Support seafood production, inventory movement, shipping, receiving, warehousing, and logistics planning • Help resolve operational issues in real time when fishing schedules, vessel activity, weather, supply requirements, or production priorities change • Support warehouse, dockside, and seafood processing activities as required • Assist with reporting, documentation, scheduling, and general operational administration • Build strong working relationships across fishing vessel operations, seafood processing, warehousing, logistics, and leadership teams Required Experience • Direct, hands-on experience working aboard commercial fishing vessels • Firsthand understanding of commercial fishing operations, vessel crews, and the realities of working at sea • Comfort communicating with fishermen, captains, vessel operators, and fishing crews • Strong communication and relationship-building skills • Ability to stay calm and solve problems when schedules and priorities change quickly • Strong organizational skills and dependable follow-through • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and accept increasing responsibility • Comfortable working across office, warehouse, seafood processing plant, and dock environments Important Experience Requirement Candidates must have direct experience working aboard commercial fishing vessels. Experience limited to container ships, cargo vessels, cruise ships, ferries, general port operations, freight terminals, warehouses, or dock environments will not be considered equivalent to commercial fishing vessel experience for this position.
