About the job U.S. Tax Manager Location: Richmond Hill, ON Department: U.S. Tax Reports to: U.S. Divisional Partner Salary Range: $110,000 – $130,000 CAD Job Type: Full-time Work Model: Hybrid (4 days/week onsite) The Client: The client is a well-established professional services firm based in Richmond Hill, Ontario, providing Assurance, Accounting, Tax, Advisory, Forensics, Business Valuations, Estate Planning, and Litigation Support services. The firm serves both Canadian and U.S. clients, with its U.S. Tax division experiencing significant growth. The organization works with a diverse client base including high-net-worth individuals and families, real estate developers, entrepreneurial and fintech businesses, regulated professionals, nationally recognized organizations, and not-for-profit entities. What you will achieve in this role: • Manage and review U.S. federal and state tax returns for individuals, corporations, trusts, and estates, including complex engagements • Oversee preparation and review of supporting workpapers to ensure compliance with firm methodology and professional standards • Lead U.S. tax compliance engagements, including Forms 1040, 1040-NR, 1120, 1120-F, 5471, 5472, 8621, FinCEN 114, 3520, and 3520-A • Review and provide guidance on U.S. estate and gift tax filings (Forms 706-NA and 709), where applicable • Conduct and review tax research related to U.S. federal and international tax matters, including PFICs, Subpart F, and GILTI, and communicate conclusions to partners and clients • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, addressing tax questions, managing expectations, and maintaining strong client relationships • Manage engagement timelines, staffing, and deliverables to ensure deadlines are met • Review and respond to IRS and state tax authority notices and correspondence • Support new client onboarding, including scoping, information gathering, and establishing compliance processes • Identify opportunities for process improvements, efficiency gains, and best practices within the U.S. Tax division • Train, mentor, and supervise associates and senior associates, including reviewing work and providing performance feedback • Assist partners with practice management initiatives, including workflow planning and resource allocation What you must bring to this role: • Undergraduate degree in Accounting and/or equivalent years of professional experience • Master’s degree in Accounting and/or U.S. CPA or EA designation considered an asset • 5+ years of progressive experience in U.S. tax within a public accounting firm, including at least 2 years in a leadership role • Strong experience reviewing and preparing U.S. individual tax returns (Forms 1040 and 1040-NR), corporate returns (Forms 1120 and 1120-F), and partnership returns (Form 1065) • Demonstrated experience managing U.S. international tax reporting, including PFIC reporting (Form 8621), Subpart F and GILTI provisions, Forms 5471 and 5472, FinCEN 114, and trust reporting (Forms 3520 and 3520-A) • Experience with U.S. estate and gift tax filings considered an asset • Knowledge of Canadian tax legislation considered an asset • Proficiency with professional U.S. tax preparation software; GoSystem experience considered an asset • Strong leadership, communication, and client management skills • Ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines in a professional services environment Working Conditions: • Hybrid work model with four days per week onsite in Richmond Hill • Fast-paced professional services environment with strict reporting timelines and multiple concurrent engagements • Regular interaction with partners, cross-border clients, and internal team members • Only candidates selected for further consideration will be contacted • This posting is intended to fill an existing vacancy Additional Information: • Background screening may be required as part of the onboarding process • All aspects of the recruitment and selection process are conducted by human staff; no artificial intelligence tools are used to screen or evaluate applicants How to Apply: If you are an experienced U.S. tax professional seeking a leadership opportunity within a growing practice, please submit your resume outlining your qualifications and relevant experience.
