About the Role
NOVAA is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our client accounting team. In this full-cycle role you will own the monthly close, payroll, tax compliance, and accounts receivable for corporate clients, serving as a trusted day-to-day finance contact. You will work directly with client stakeholders, government agencies, and our internal review team to keep books accurate, timely, and audit-ready. This is a hands-on position well suited to someone who thrives in a multi-client environment and enjoys balancing recurring deliverables with process-improvement projects such as new-system implementations.
Key Responsibilities
Month-End Close & Financial Reporting. Perform full-cycle month-end close, including journal entries, accruals, prepaid adjustments, and revenue recognition. Prepare and review bank reconciliations, supporting schedules, and IFRS postings; extract and update financial statements. Consolidate financial data and prepare supporting files for review engagements alongside the review team.
Payroll. Process semi-monthly payroll and off-cycle runs, including profit-sharing and seniority bonuses, retroactive pay, and RRSP contributions. Reconcile payroll, resolve CPP and source-deduction variances, and coordinate with payroll providers such as Wagepoint.
Tax & Government Compliance. Prepare and file GST/QST returns and remit to the CRA and Revenu Quebec. Respond to CRA correspondence and inquiries, and manage withholding-tax remittances and CNESST filings and payments.
Accounts Receivable & Payments. Prepare client invoicing, reconcile invoices, and maintain the order book and invoice overviews. Process ACH, wire, and bank-draft payments, and manage expense claims (Concur) and corporate card reconciliations (Amex).
Client Service & Projects. Participate in month-end, finance, and client meetings, and serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clients. Support finance-transformation projects, including testing and rollout of new systems such as AP automation (Rillion).
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Two or more years of full-cycle accounting experience, ideally in a firm or multi-client environment; CPA designation or candidate an asset. Solid working knowledge of Canadian tax and payroll compliance (GST/QST, CRA, Revenu Quebec, CNESST), with IFRS an asset. Hands-on experience with month-end close, reconciliations, payroll processing, and accounts receivable.
Skills & Tools
Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel; experience with Concur, Wagepoint, Rillion, or similar platforms a plus. Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple deadlines across clients. Clear written and verbal communication for working with clients, government agencies, and internal reviewers. Bilingual (English/French) an asset given work with Quebec tax authorities.
