Join Our Team as a Senior Game Data Analyst ThunderFire, the division of NetEase Games, is a leading developer and publisher dedicated to creating exceptional gaming experiences for a global audience. Based in Montreal and Toronto, our teams develop innovative projects including local titles and international hits like Blood Message and Ananta. We’re looking for a passionate Senior Game Data Analyst to turn player data into actionable insights that shape our games' future. About the Role Within our Insights Center, a multidisciplinary team combining user research and data analytics, you'll be instrumental in testing games, gathering player feedback, and uncovering the motivations behind player behaviors. Your analyses will help our development teams craft more engaging and successful games. Key Responsibilities - Analyze player data to identify trends, patterns, and insights that inform game design and user research initiatives, always placing findings within the broader player behavior story. - Create reports, dashboards, and visualizations that clearly communicate data insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. - Understand data pipelines and modeling to translate analytical needs into technical requirements, identify data quality issues, and comprehend how upstream decisions impact downstream accuracy. - Develop and maintain internal tools, increasingly powered by AI, to assist researchers and analysts in tracking, visualizing, and analyzing playtest data efficiently. - Collaborate with cross-functional teams—game designers, developers, user researchers—to define questions, set KPIs, and track metrics throughout the analytics lifecycle. - Monitor game metrics to detect potential issues and opportunities for improvement. - Experiment with AI/ML tools to stay at the forefront of analytics innovation, sharing insights and best practices with the team. - Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in game data analytics. What We’re Looking For Experience & Education - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business Intelligence, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or related fields (or equivalent practical experience). - At least 5 years of experience in data analysis, ideally within the gaming industry. - Proven ability to turn behavioral data into clear insights and actionable recommendations. - Experience working with cross-functional teams—designers, developers, producers, and user researchers. - Experience collaborating with international teams; English proficiency is a plus. Technical Skills - Strong SQL skills and familiarity with data analysis and manipulation tools. - Hands-on experience with Sigma, dbt, Snowflake, or similar analytics stacks. - Skilled in data visualization and BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Looker, or Sigma. - Experience in data modeling (Kimball, Data Vault, etc.) is an asset. - Proficiency with Python or R, with knowledge of AI/ML applications in analytics (LLMs, predictive modeling, anomaly detection). - Good understanding of the video game industry and production cycles is advantageous. Extras & Nice-to-Have Skills - Bilingual French-English skills, especially beneficial in our Montreal studio. - Experience working alongside UX researchers. - Background with Chinese game development teams or publishers. - Knowledge of marketing analytics, user acquisition, or community feedback channels. Work Location & Language Justification Position open to Montreal and Toronto candidates, with a preference for candidates based in Montreal due to team presence and in-office requirements (currently 3 days/week, subject to change). Language requirement: NetEase is committed to supporting a French-speaking environment in Quebec. While French proficiency is valued, communication with international colleagues necessitates strong English skills for collaboration, meetings, and stakeholder engagement.
