About this role
Mulvey & Banani is a Toronto-based engineering consulting firm providing comprehensive and integrated building systems engineering services for electrical and electronic systems that are innovative, resilient, and adaptable for new building construction and re-purposing/renovation of existing buildings.
About the Role: We are looking for a technically strong and detail-driven Electrical Engineer with a passion for design excellence, quality, and mentorship to join our growing team in a QA/QC-focused role.
This is not a traditional QA/QC position. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being a technical leader across multiple projects, improving engineering standards, mentoring teams, solving complex design challenges, and elevating the quality of deliverables across a fast-paced consulting environment. The successful candidate will play a critical role in reviewing design deliverables, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and client standards, and maintaining consistent design quality across projects.
This role is ideal for someone with a strong foundation in electrical engineering who is passionate about design excellence, technical standards, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead technical QA/QC reviews for electrical building systems projects across various stages of design and construction
• Review and validate electrical drawings, specifications, calculations, BIM models, and engineering documentation for technical accuracy, constructability, coordination, and code compliance
• Provide technical guidance to designers and engineers related to power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, grounding, life safety, emergency power, and low-voltage systems
• Collaborate with project teams to resolve complex design issues and improve overall project quality
• Support the development and enhancement of engineering standards, QA/QC procedures, templates, and best practices across the firm
• Participate in multidisciplinary coordination reviews and BIM-based design workflows
• Contribute to lessons learned initiatives, technical training sessions, and continuous improvement efforts
• Support construction administration activities including RFIs, site reviews, shop drawing reviews, and field issue resolution
• Help drive technical consistency across projects while maintaining flexibility for unique client and project requirements
• Mentor junior and intermediate staff through technical feedback and knowledge sharing
• Perform quality checks and technical reviews of electrical drawings, specifications, reports, and calculations at various design stages (Concept, Schematic, Design Development, Construction Documents).
• Verify adherence to quality protocols and ensure consistency across drawing packages, naming conventions, and engineering documentation.
• Contribute to internal audits, lessons learned, and quality training sessions for the engineering team.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution.
• 5+ years of experience in electrical design or consulting engineering, with experience performing QA/QC or technical review.
• Strong understanding of building systems (e.g., lighting, power distribution, fire alarm, grounding, life safety) in commercial, institutional, or industrial projects.
• Familiarity with Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC), and other relevant standards.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical drawings, design specifications, and technical reports.
• Experience with design tools such as AutoCAD, Revit (BIM), and electrical calculation software.
• Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and technical writing abilities.
• Familiarity with QA/QC in BIM workflows and model-based design coordination. Exposure to project delivery models like P3, Design-Build, etc.
