About this role

About the position ARC'TERYX is growing, and the Technology group is a key part of supporting and accelerating this growth. As a Software Engineer II, your contributions will significantly enhance user experiences and support business outcomes. You will play a key role in feature implementation by offering insightful ideas and suggestions, analyzing and proposing improvements to the technical architecture of the features, and implementing in code. Collaborating with a team of driven and experienced software engineers, you will work alongside colleagues who are passionate about proactively improving existing systems and ensuring long-term operational stability. This role is based out of ARC'TERYX headquarters in North Vancouver, BC. We are open to a hybrid or remote work. Remote candidates must be committed to Pacific time zone hours. Please note that candidates must be eligible to work in Canada. The technology team builds the backbone for arcteryx.com websites. We work with cross-functional agile squads to build and roll out new features, improve performances, and build self-serve tools for our business stakeholders to create an amazing online experience for our guests. Responsibilities • Having accountability for development direction and health of medium-sized features from technical design to launch • Breaking down large requests into manageable sub-tasks, prioritizing work effectively and ensuring steady progress by focusing on essential details • Being an active participant in the technical design process and writing test plans to ensure the quality and reliability of the software • Upholding and improving best practices for the team, providing constructive feedback to peers and managers, and proactively seeking clarification and guidance when needed • Executing performance tuning, improvement, balancing, usability, automation • Understanding how your work contributes to the larger picture of the team and identify conflicting requirements • Performing bug fixes and improvements, sometimes in unfamiliar areas requiring requirements research • Aligning with ARC'TERYX leadership practices and culture in your daily work • Owning a set of features you’ve developed with your team, and a become the go to person • Leading team meetings about your area of expertise • Initiating refactoring of low performing part of the software • Contributing to the software architecture of new products • Improving the tests and quality of the application • Defining clear contracts between systems and maintaining integration • Setting up non regression detection systems with SLA Requirements • 4+ years of experience in a professional software engineering role of increasing responsibility and sophistication • Proficient in multiple programming languages and fluent in at least one of them • Programming with C#, PHP, and JavaScript for multiple years • Worked with transactional and NoSQL databases • Strong experience writing and maintaining automated user and unit tests • Strong experience integrating with 3rd party APIs, OAuth 2.0, and headless architectures • Experience working with cloud computing providers, container solutions, and CI/CD pipelines • Experience with CDN, Web Server, and Load balancer configuration and management • Great communication, problem solving, and documentation skills • Proactive in identifying the root cause of issues and developing solutions • Highly flexible and adaptable when faced with ambiguity Nice-to-haves • Your passion for your work is paralleled by your passion for getting outside and living it Benefits • Extended health, dental, and vision coverage, including mental health support, fertility benefits, gender-affirming care and a 24/7 Employee Assistance Program (EAP) • RRSP matching and eligibility for Arc'teryx Annual Incentive Plan and access to Employee Stock Purchase program (ESPP) where applicable • Paid time off, wellness time, and No Wasted Day program (dedicated paid days to get outside & explore) • Parental leave top-up and a nesting period for new parents • Professional development opportunities, Arc'teryx Academies (outdoor skill-building events), Employee Belonging Councils, and access to employee discounts and Pro Deals (exclusive discounted pricing on gear)
