Senior Software Engineer, Lightning Intelligence (Toronto)

Job Overview The Lightning Intelligence team, part of the Bitcoin Platform at Block, is looking for senior engineers to build and expand tools that improve Lightning network usage. In this role you will design and implement a robust risk management service, working closely with product, compliance, and cross‑functional teams to protect the ecosystem while respecting privacy principles. Responsibilities • Design and build the first systems to help the Bitcoin Platform assess and respond to risks impacting Lightning services. • Integrate third‑party data sources to enrich the risk engine with additional attribution data. • Collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders to gather and refine requirements. • Own the end‑to‑end lifecycle of new systems from design through release and ongoing operation. Qualifications • 8+ years of experience building large‑scale, backend platforms. • Strong motivation to contribute to product that changes how people interact with financial institutions. • Experience with Bitcoin/Lightning, or a demonstrable desire to learn. • Experience working across teams and disciplines. • Track record building backend systems at scale, using modern eventing, database, and infrastructure tooling. • Pragmatic, delivery‑focused approach to software design. • Ability to handle both macro and micro elements of design. • Willingness to contribute to growth of teammates. • Demonstrated technical initiative and leadership on previous projects.
