Position: Manager, Property Accounting Location: Ottawa, ON | Hybrid (4 Days in Office, Fridays from Home) Salary: $115-120,000 + Bonus + Pension Ref: 1125748 Your New Company Our client is a well-established owner and manager of commercial real estate assets with a significant presence across Canada. With a diverse portfolio spanning office, industrial, and retail properties, the organization is recognized for its long-term approach to asset management, operational excellence, and commitment to developing its people. Due to continued growth within the Ottawa region and an internal promotion, the organization is looking to add a Manager, Property Accounting to its accounting leadership team. Your New Role Reporting to the Divisional Controller, the Manager, Property Accounting will oversee the accounting operations for a portfolio of approximately 40 commercial properties. This includes a mix of office, industrial, and retail assets, including a large enclosed shopping centre. You will lead a team of approximately six accounting professionals, consisting of a Supervisor, Property Accountants, and support staff, while ensuring the accuracy and integrity of all financial reporting. Key responsibilities include: • Overseeing day-to-day accounting activities and ensuring compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures. • Reviewing and approving monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reconciliations. • Managing cash flow requirements related to mortgages, capital projects, acquisitions, dispositions, and distributions. • Reviewing tenant and vendor reconciliations and overseeing operating cost recoveries. • Interpreting lease agreements and supporting lease and revenue accounting processes. • Leading annual budgeting, quarterly forecasting, and year-end reporting activities. • Identifying opportunities for process improvements and enhancing reporting capabilities. • Building strong relationships with operational teams, executives, service providers, and other stakeholders. • Hiring, coaching, mentoring, and developing accounting team members. • Supporting special projects and assisting with the implementation of evolving accounting standards and best practices. What You'll Need to Succeed To be considered for this opportunity, you will possess: • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline. • Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including exposure to lease or revenue accounting within a commercial real estate environment. • Previous leadership experience managing and developing accounting professionals. • Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and internal controls. • Experience reviewing operating cost recoveries and interpreting commercial lease agreements. • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail. • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications. • Excellent communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills. • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. • CPA designation or progress toward completion is considered an asset.
