The Opportunity We are seeking an Associate Lawyer with 4+ years of post-call experience to service our growing practice. This is an exciting opportunity to join an established firm and develop expertise in a highly sought-after area of law while working closely with experienced partners and high-calibre clients. The successful candidate should have at least 4 years of post-call experience relevant to our practice but we are willing to consider candidates with considerably more experience with the right fit and potential. The successful candidate will work on a broad range of domestic and international matters involving tax structuring, estate planning and estate settlement, and corporate transactions. Key Responsibilities - Analyze client issues and develop tax-efficient estate planning and tax minimization strategies under the partners’ guidance - Conduct legal and tax research relating to particular cross-border estates and tax issues addressing specific client cross-border scenarios - Draft complex legal documents, including Canadian and U.S. estate planning documents, corporate agreements and implementation documentation - Assist with probate and estate administration matters in Canadian and U.S. jurisdictions - Advise clients on cross-border real estate matters - Maintain proactive communication with clients and manage files to meet deadlines - Contribute to firm publications, presentations, and thought leadership initiatives - Identify and initiate business development opportunities through attending appropriate networking and/or technical expertise initiatives Qualifications - 4+ years post-call experience in tax and estates law - Member in good standing of a Canadian provincial bar - Strong drafting, analytical, and research skills - Strong communication, client management, organizational and analytical skills - Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy with the ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines Assets - U.S. law degree and/or U.S. bar admission - TEP designation (or progress toward it) - Interest in U.S./Canadian cross-border issues - Experience with cross-border tax or estate planning matters Why Join Altro LLP - Direct exposure to sophisticated, high-net-worth client work - Cross-border practice with meaningful U.S./Canada integration - Mentorship from experienced partners - Opportunities for specialization and career progression - Supportive, collaborative, entrepreneurial firm culture How to Apply Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, résumé, and academic transcripts to jwong@altrolaw.com.
