About this role

Summary Vireco is hiring a Controls & OT Integration Engineer to help connect real-world operational systems into our energy intelligence platform. This role will begin as a part-time / contract position, with the intention to convert into a full-time role over the next few months as Vireco expands deployments across buildings, airports, manufacturers, warehouses, and other complex facilities. This role sits between physical infrastructure and software. The initial focus will be on building management systems, HVAC controls, BACnet, Modbus, point mapping, meters, trend logs, and edge-device connectivity. Over time, the role may expand into broader operational technology systems such as PLCs, SCADA, conveyors, baggage systems, pumps, motors, compressors, and industrial equipment. Success in this role means Vireco can connect to customer sites more reliably, understand what data is available, map equipment and control points clearly, and create repeatable integration workflows that make future deployments faster. This person will work closely with Vireco’s software, ML, optimization, and deployment teams to turn raw controls data into usable inputs for digital twins, analytics, and optimization. This is not a pure IT networking role. We are looking for someone who understands how real equipment appears inside control systems and how to safely bring that data into a software platform. Responsibilities • Support integration of building management systems, building automation systems, and operational technology systems into Vireco’s platform. • Work with BACnet/IP, BACnet MSTP, Modbus TCP, and Modbus RTU systems to support data access and equipment connectivity. • Assist with BMS/BAS point discovery, point mapping, tagging, naming cleanup, and metadata organization. • Help identify and structure data from HVAC equipment, including AHUs, chillers, boilers, pumps, VAVs, dampers, fans, valves, meters, sensors, setpoints, alarms, and trend logs. • Support edge-device and gateway setup, including industrial PCs, local servers, and network-connected devices. • Help define safe and repeatable workflows for extracting historical and real-time operational data from customer sites. • Work with internal software and ML teams to translate raw control-system data into usable equipment models and digital twin inputs. • Support customer site integration planning, including access requirements, network requirements, system architecture, and data-availability checks. • Troubleshoot connectivity issues across OT networks, BMS systems, field devices, gateways, and software pipelines. • Coordinate with facility operators, controls contractors, BMS vendors, mechanical contractors, and internal technical teams. • Document repeatable deployment processes so future integrations can be completed faster and more reliably. • Help Vireco build a scalable integration playbook across buildings, airports, manufacturers, warehouses, and other complex facilities. Qualifications • Experience with building automation systems, industrial controls, operational technology, or control-system integration. • Familiarity with BACnet/IP, BACnet MSTP, Modbus TCP, and Modbus RTU. • Experience with BMS/BAS platforms such as Siemens, Honeywell, Schneider Electric, Johnson Controls, Tridium Niagara, Automated Logic, Delta Controls, or similar systems. • Understanding of HVAC systems, control points, sequences of operation, alarms, trend logs, and equipment hierarchies. • Experience with point mapping, system tagging, controls metadata, or operational data labeling. • Familiarity with OT networking concepts such as IP addressing, VLANs, VPNs, firewalls, gateways, and secure remote access. • Ability to troubleshoot messy real-world systems and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. • Comfortable working with facility teams, controls contractors, vendors, and software engineers. • Strong documentation habits and ability to turn one-off integration work into repeatable processes. Nice to Have • Experience with PLCs, SCADA systems, OPC UA, MQTT, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, or industrial gateways. • Experience with conveyors, baggage handling systems, pumps, motors, compressors, meters, or other industrial equipment. • Background in commissioning, retro-commissioning, controls contracting, facilities engineering, or mechanical systems. • Experience extracting historical trend data from BMS/BAS platforms. • Basic Python, scripting, API, database, or data-pipeline experience. • Experience working around cybersecurity constraints in OT environments. • Understanding of how control-system data can support analytics, optimization, predictive maintenance, or digital twins. • Experience in airports, manufacturing, warehouses, commercial buildings, hospitals, campuses, or other complex facilities. Role Structure This role will begin part-time, with the expectation that it can transition into a full-time position over the next few months. Initial compensation will be structured hourly or part-time, depending on availability and experience. Full-time compensation will be discussed as the role expands, with compensation based on seniority, controls experience, OT integration depth, and ability to help Vireco build a repeatable deployment process.
