Job Description
Our client, a leading financial institution in Downtown Toronto, is looking for a Business Analyst - Data, SQL, PowerBI to analyze legacy reports in SQL Server and Power BI to document current data transformations, business logic, and source-to-target mappings. The candidate will work with one of the Top 5 Banks in Canada.

Typical Day in the role
• Migration & Mapping: Map legacy data transformations to new data products on the Azure Databricks platform to ensure a seamless transition and migration.
• Process Optimization: Identify duplication of logic across reports and find opportunities to simplify and streamline overall reporting processes.
• Data Profiling & Quality: Perform data analysis using SQL and Excel to profile data, identify inconsistencies, and conduct root-cause analysis on data quality issues (including CRM/Salesforce data hygiene).
• Collaboration & Liaison: Serve as a key liaison between business stakeholders, data engineers, and IT teams to translate legacy reporting logic into requirements for the new modernized data architecture.
• Issue Resolution: Collaborate with application owners to resolve identified data discrepancies and implement permanent data governance solutions.
• Root Cause Analysis: Analyze and investigate the root cause of data hygiene issues with the business and source team to create remediation action plan and roadmap.
• Tools used: CRM platforms such as Salesforce, creating, managing, and analyzing surveys, performing data analysis using SQL and Excel to profile data and identify data inconsistencies, using PowerBI for visualizing insights.
• Reporting: Report on workstream progress and remediation efforts to stakeholders.
Must-Have Skills
• 5+ years as a Data/Business Analyst with proven experience in data migration projects, documenting end-to-end data lineage, and creating source-to-target mappings.
• 3-5 years of strong SQL experience (specifically SQL Server) writing and analyzing complex queries and stored procedures to profile data and identify inconsistencies.
• 3-5 years of experience with Power BI, focusing on analyzing existing Power BI reports, DAX, queries, and dataflows to extract and document business logic.
• Experience in Data Quality & Governance, conducting root-cause analysis for data issues, and working with CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce) for data hygiene.
• Familiarity with modern cloud data platforms, ideally Azure Databricks, to facilitate mapping legacy data to new cloud-based data products.
Nice-To-Have Skills
• 2-3 years of hands‑on experience with Salesforce.
• Working across multiple teams and stakeholders (business, data, and IT).
• Experience with MDM tools.
• Experience building data solutions and gathering requirements for such projects.
• Previous experience with Top Banks / FI.
Soft Skills Required
• Excellent communication skills. Presentation skills – summarizing findings in a PPT format and presenting to varying levels of stakeholders.
Education
• Bachelor’s degree.
• Data Bricks certification.
