About this role

SENIOR ACCOUNTANT, FINANCIAL SERVICES, TORONTO We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented accounting and finance professional for a private debt manager and industry leader in its field, that sources and administers loans of over $200 million across Canada. Reporting to the Finance Manager and working closely with the CFO, the successful candidate will be responsible for a broad range of accounting, reporting, investor relations, and special project activities within a collaborative and fast-paced environment. An accounting designation and former financial services experience is preferred. Daily Responsibilities: • Prepare month-end accounting adjustments across multiple entities within the Group • Perform cash and bank account reconciliations • Participate in cross-training related to deposit management functions • Prepare monthly divisional variance analysis reports for the executive team • Produce monthly borrowing base reports for the Group’s senior lender, supporting the Group’s capacity to draw on credit facilities. These reports incorporate data from multiple internal information systems • Support ongoing interaction with approximately 75 external investors and three Exempt Market Dealers • Assist the CFO with capital raising initiatives, including communicating renewal interest rates and coordinating 8–10 note renewals per month, representing approximately $2.5 million monthly • Prepare quarterly investor reports under the direction of the CFO and coordinate distribution to the investor network • Maintain external investor documentation, including books of record, subscription information, banking details, and interest rate updates associated with note renewals • Calculate monthly interest payments payable to external investors and coordinate payment scheduling with the Manager and Controller • Special Projects & Additional Responsibilities • Serve as a key contact during the annual audit process, responding to information requests, preparing analyses, and supporting audit schedules • Support the Manager with two annual Special Procedures Audits mandated by the Group’s senior lender, conducted each June and November • Assist in managing the financial model used for the annual budgeting process • Upload the annual budget into the accounting system to support monthly variance reporting and identify opportunities to improve process efficiency • Contribute to additional responsibilities and cross-functional initiatives as required within a small team environment • Support the organization’s focus on operational efficiency through the use of technology and software tools, including Power BI and Anthropic Claude AI Qualifications & Experience: • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline • Completion of a recognized accounting designation is preferred • Minimum of four years of relevant professional experience, including significant in-office work experience within a collaborative team environment • Prior experience within the financial services industry preferred • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel • Experience working within an audit firm environment, or direct involvement supporting a company’s annual audit process, would be viewed favourably • Demonstrated knowledge of, or experience with, software automation and reporting tools such as Power BI would be beneficial • Familiarity with securities regulations would be considered an asset, though not required Working Arrangement: • Office environment located in Toronto’s downtown financial district • Hybrid work arrangement with the opportunity to work remotely one day per week • Regular in-office collaboration is encouraged to support learning, mentorship, and relationship-building across the firm • The Group operates within a Microsoft software environment, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams, as well as QuickBooks Online and other specialized portfolio and borrower management systems For more information, please contact Shan Collins directly at: scollins@collinsrecruit.com All applications and enquiries will be held strictly confidential.
