About this role
Our client is a rapidly growing software acquisition and operating company that acquires, builds, and supports vertical market software businesses.
Responsibilities
• Serve as the primary legal advisor to both corporate headquarters and a portfolio of software businesses across North America.
• Advise on a broad range of legal matters, including commercial contracts, procurement, employment, privacy, intellectual property, governance, disputes, compliance, and general corporate matters.
• Partner closely with senior leadership, including the General Counsel, on strategic and operational legal initiatives.
• Manage external counsel relationships across multiple jurisdictions and practice areas.
• Support legal onboarding and post-acquisition integration of newly acquired businesses.
• Develop scalable legal infrastructure, including templates, playbooks, training materials, and self-service resources.
• Lead legal education initiatives and provide practical guidance to business stakeholders across the organization.
• Drive adoption of AI tools and legal technology solutions to improve efficiency and scalability.
• Build processes and systems that enable business teams to operate independently while appropriately managing risk.
• Support a diverse portfolio of software businesses in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
Qualifications
• Member in good standing of a Canadian Law Society or U.S. State Bar.
• Possess 5–9+ years of legal experience, including significant in-house experience within a technology, software, SaaS, or high-growth business environment.
• Demonstrated experience supporting a broad range of commercial and operational legal matters.
• Strong commercial judgment and ability to provide practical, business-focused legal advice.
• Experience managing external counsel and advising senior business stakeholders.
• Proven ability to operate independently and effectively in environments characterized by ambiguity and evolving processes.
• Demonstrated hands‑on use of AI tools within legal workflows.
• Excellent drafting, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• M&A exposure is considered an asset but is not required.
