About this role

Our client is a top financial institution with significant North American holdings. They have operations across most major verticals, including institutional & corporate, wealth management, private clients, commercial banking, treasury, and retail banking. Introduction: Robertson is seeking a skilled Data Analyst & Data Modeler – Product & Insurance Risk to join our client in support of an existing vacancy. Contract Period: 7 months with potential to extend Pay Rate: Starting from $50 per hour Location: Toronto, ON Location Type: Hybrid Business Hours: Monday-Friday; core business hours Job Responsibilities: • Analyse and document business processes for insurance product development, underwriting assessments, risk scoring, reinsurance allocations, and claims • Collaborate with actuarial, underwriting, risk, and claims teams to capture • Translate complex insurance risk rules into detailed Business Requirements • Analyze and model data related to insurance products, underwriting risk scores, • reinsurance structures, and claims lifecycle events • Develop conceptual, logical, and physical data models supporting insurance risk analytics and reporting layers • Support development and enhancement of Product & Insurance Risk frameworks that align with regulatory expectations and internal governance • Assist in mapping reinsurance treaties, ceded and assumed reinsurance rules, and integration touchpoints across policy admin, underwriting, and claims systems • Document reinsurance business processes, bordereaux reporting requirements, and quality assurance checkpoints. • Data Mapping, Analytics & Reporting • Develop source-to-target mappings for underwriting, reinsurance, and claims datasets across multiple systems (PAS, CRM, Rating Engines, Claims Platforms) • Support data quality checks, lineage documentation, and risk metric definitions (e.g., underwriting leakage, claims ratios, reinsurance, over retention) • Perform SQL-based data analysis to support underwriting rules, reserving calculations, risk exposure reporting, and claims trend analysis • Systems, Platforms & Agile Delivery • Work with cross-functional Agile squads to design workflows, integrations, and platform enhancements supporting underwriting, reinsurance, or claims • Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, and product grooming sessions • Collaborate with architects and developers to validate technical feasibility of requirements and ensure alignment with architectural patterns • Serve as a primary liaison between business units (Underwriting, Actuarial, Claims, Reinsurance Operations) and IT delivery teams • Coordinate with third-party vendors (reinsurance platforms, claims systems, fraud analytics tools, etc.) to support integration and system configuration activities • Facilitate workshops, requirement walkthroughs, and UAT cycles to ensure clarity, completeness, and alignment • Design and develop enterprise-scale Power BI solutions, including • Semantic models (star schema, dimensional models) • Complex DAX measures and calculation groups • Build and manage Power BI Premium capacity and workspace architecture • Capacity planning and optimization • Deployment pipelines (Dev/Test/Prod) • Row-level security (RLS) and object-level security (OLS) • Design and implement Fabric-based analytics solutions • Lakehouse / Warehouse modelling • Delta tables and medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold layers) • Semantic model integration with Power BI • Optimize datasets for large-scale, near real-time analytics across insurance risk domains Experience & Qualification Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Business Administration, Insurance required • 5 years of data analyst experience • Proven experience as a Power BI Developer, with up-to-date knowledge of the latest Power BI features and enhancements • Strong proficiency in SQL and DAX for data transformation, querying, and advanced calculations • Solid expertise in data modeling, including designing efficient and scalable semantic models • Skilled in data analysis, with the ability to derive actionable insights from complex datasets • Experience implementing and managing controls within Power BI, including governance, security, and performance optimization • Domain experience in the insurance industry is an asset How to Apply: If you are a motivated professional looking to contribute to a leading team, please submit your resume outlining your qualifications and experience relevant to this role.
