About this role
Are you a senior finance leader with deep roots in FP&A and a passion for turning complex financials into strategic insight? This is a high-visibility, high-impact role at the heart of a major Canadian insurer's Finance leadership team.
The Opportunity
As Senior Director, FP&A, you will own the financial planning, analysis, and management reporting function for a complex insurance business. You will serve as a trusted advisor to C-suite executives — including the CEO, COO, and group CFO — delivering the analysis and storytelling that drives strategic decisions.
This is not a back-office reporting role. You will be front and centre with the business, translating numbers into narrative, embedding forecasts into decision-making, and leading a high-performing team in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
What You'll Do
• Lead the business's FP&A function and set the standard for financial planning, analysis, and reporting excellence
• Build and deliver insightful financial analysis, executive presentations, and business case modelling for senior leadership
• Own the annual plan, rolling forecasts, 5-year outlook, and stress-testing exercises across the Insurance platform
• Advise business leaders on the use of financial resources — identifying trends, risks, and opportunities in sales, expenses, and strategic initiatives
• Ensure IFRS 17 and other regulatory/accounting changes (OSFI) are properly embedded in forecasting, planning, and reporting frameworks
• Oversee benchmarking, peer comparisons, and LOB reviews — presenting findings and recommendations to senior management
• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of finance professionals in a culture of curiosity, rigour, and innovation
Must-Have Qualifications
• 10+years of FP&A experience, with significant exposure to insurance — life insurance, group benefits, or segregated funds strongly preferred
• Deep insurance industry knowledge — you understand what drives this business and can tell the story behind the numbers
• Hands-on IFRS 17 experience — you've worked through the implementation and know its financial impact
• Proven business advisory skills — you translate financial data into actionable insight for executives
• Experience embedding forecasting into business planning and linking it to strategic decision-making
• CPA designation with Big 4 public accounting background
Nice to Have
• Expense management experience and cost optimization leadership
• CFA or Finance MBA
• Actuarial concepts or valuation knowledge
• Experience implementing or enhancing forecasting/reporting tools
• Exposure to financial modelling, statistics, risk, or quantitative metrics
Why This Role?
• Exceptional visibility — direct partnership with C-suite
• Meaningful impact — your analysis and forecasts shape how the business is run
• Forward-looking culture — innovation, automation, and data-driven finance at the core
