Toronto · Hybrid Role About Shaffie Law Shaffie Law is a criminal defence firm led by former Assistant Crown Attorney Shayan Shaffie. We provide uncompromising representation to individuals charged with criminal and quasi-criminal offences across Ontario, with a particular focus on high-stakes intimate partner violence litigation that intersects with family and civil court proceedings.
The Role The firm is expanding and requires an experienced, industrious mid-level Associate to manage a curated caseload while laying the groundwork for future expansion. This is a hybrid role based in Toronto, with an average of two days per week in our St.
Lawrence
Market office and the balance remote. Day-to-day responsibilities include managing a criminal defence file load, client management, and, over time, supervising junior staff. For the right candidate, there is a serious prospect of future growth into a management or partnership-level role.
Qualifications Good standing with the Law Society of Ontario, with an unblemished disciplinary record.
3–5 years of hands-on criminal defence experience. New calls should not apply.
Exceptional written and oral advocacy, grounded in a demonstrable command of the Charter and core criminal jurisprudence.
Client-focused communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts, manage expectations, and build trust with diverse clients.
Demonstrated experience handling intimate partner violence files, including sexual assault and domestic assault matters.
Comfort with a hybrid work arrangement, using secure technology while maintaining confidentiality and compliance with professional obligations. Remuneration and Terms Annual salary in the range of $90,000–$125,000, commensurate with experience, ambition, and qualifications.
Guaranteed 10% raise after the first twelve months.
LSO and LawPRO dues paid by the firm.
Annual CPD stipend.
