Intermediate IT Project Manager (Public Sector) – Toronto, ON
Stafingo is currently recruiting on behalf of a confidential Public Sector client in Ontario for an experienced Intermediate IT Project Manager.
Position Details :
Position: Intermediate IT Project Manager
Location: Toronto, Ontario
Work Arrangement: Up to 5 days onsite per week (subject to hiring manager discretion)
Contract Duration: July 20th, 2026 – July 19th, 2027
Extension Option: Up to an additional 250 business days
Compensation: $80.00/hr – $95.00/hr (depending on skills and experience)
Opportunity Overview :
The selected consultant will be responsible for managing and delivering information technology projects within a large Public Sector environment. The role requires strong project leadership skills, the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholder groups, and experience navigating government governance structures, reporting requirements, and project delivery methodologies.
The Project Manager will work closely with business units, technical teams, vendors, executive stakeholders, and project sponsors to ensure successful project outcomes while maintaining alignment with organizational priorities, timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities :
Project Planning & Delivery
Lead the planning, initiation, execution, monitoring, control, and closure of IT projects.
Develop comprehensive project plans, schedules, milestones, work breakdown structures, and resource plans.
Define project scope, objectives, deliverables, dependencies, and success criteria.
Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and according to approved scope.
Stakeholder Management
Establish and maintain strong relationships with business stakeholders, technical teams, vendors, and executive leadership.
Facilitate project meetings, workshops, and stakeholder engagement sessions.
Communicate project progress, risks, issues, and decisions to stakeholders at all levels.
Manage stakeholder expectations and ensure alignment between business requirements and project deliverables.
Risk & Issue Management
Identify, assess, monitor, and mitigate project risks.
Develop risk mitigation and contingency plans.
Escalate critical issues appropriately and drive timely resolution.
Maintain risk and issue logs and provide status updates through project governance channels.
Financial & Resource Management
Monitor project budgets, expenditures, forecasts, and resource utilization.
Ensure effective allocation and management of project resources.
Track project financial performance and report variances against approved budgets.
Governance & Reporting
Prepare project status reports, executive briefings, dashboards, and governance documentation.
Ensure compliance with organizational project management standards, methodologies, and governance requirements.
Support project audits, reviews, and quality assurance activities.
Present project updates to steering committees and senior leadership groups.
Vendor & Contract Management
Coordinate activities involving third-party vendors and service providers.
Monitor vendor performance against contractual obligations and project deliverables.
Manage vendor-related risks, dependencies, and issue resolution activities.
Mandatory Qualifications :
Public Sector Experience – Must Have :
Candidates must demonstrate experience delivering IT projects within a Public Sector environment, including working with government stakeholders, governance structures, policies, reporting requirements, and procurement processes.
Project Management Experience
Proven experience managing medium-to-large-scale IT projects.
Experience overseeing multiple project streams and coordinating cross-functional teams.
Demonstrated ability to manage project scope, schedules, budgets, risks, and deliverables.
Strong understanding of project management methodologies and best practices.
Communication & Leadership
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
Strong facilitation, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
Ability to influence and collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Demonstrated leadership in managing project teams and driving successful outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate may possess experience in one or more of the following areas:
Enterprise application implementation projects
Digital transformation initiatives
Infrastructure modernization projects
Cloud migration programs
Business process transformation initiatives
Vendor management and procurement support
Change management and organizational readiness activities
Note: Professional certifications such as PMP, PRINCE2, Agile, Scrum, or equivalent are considered strong assets.
