About this role

The Equality Fund is transforming the way that resources—and power—flow into the hands of women, girls and gender expansive people worldwide. Designed by feminists for feminists, it is a model for sustainably resourcing feminist movements everywhere, through global grantmaking, gender-lens investing, policy advocacy, and feminist philanthropy. Launched in 2019, the Equality Fund has activated $100 million to date which flows to more than 1,000 organizations working across 100 countries. THE OPPORTUNITY The Associate Vice-President (AVP), Finance is a senior operational leader responsible for managing the Equality Fund’s day-to-day financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. Reporting to the CFO, the AVP will oversee financial reporting, budgeting, and treasury activities, while supporting the CFO in executing the organization’s long-term financial strategy and risk management. The AVP will play a critical role in translating the CFO’s strategic vision into actionable plans, ensuring that financial operations align with the Equality Fund’s mission and values. This role requires a detail-oriented leader with strong technical expertise, a commitment to collaboration, and the ability to manage complex financial processes in a global, fast-paced environment. SCOPE & RESPONSIBILITIES Financial Operations and Reporting • Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including accounting, payroll, and treasury activities. • Prepare and deliver accurate and timely financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual statements. • Monitor cash flow and short-term investments, ensuring optimal liquidity and interest earnings. Budgeting and Forecasting • Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with the CFO and department heads. • Develop and maintain financial forecasts, providing insights into organizational performance and resource allocation. • Investigate and resolve budget variances, recommending corrective actions as needed. Risk Management and Compliance • Implement and monitor internal controls to ensure compliance with financial policies, regulations, and donor requirements. • Support the CFO in conducting risk assessments and developing mitigation strategies. • Oversee the preparation for internal and external audits, ensuring timely resolution of findings. Team Leadership and Development • Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and professional growth. • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the finance team and across all financial practices. • Provide guidance and support to team members on technical accounting and financial matters. Stakeholder Collaboration • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure financial processes support organizational priorities. • Build and maintain relationships with external partners, including auditors, vendors, and financial institutions. • Provide financial training and support to non-finance staff as needed. QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES • CPA designation; • At least 6 years of progressive management/leadership experience in a similar role; • Experience with investment management and related accounting and reporting; • Commitment to the work and values of the Equality Fund, in particular the values of gender equality and shifting traditional power systems; • Exhibits an outgoing and approachable demeanor; demonstrates integrity, diplomacy, work ethic; • Advanced proficiency with accounting softwares, spreadsheet programs/applications and Google suite; • Experience creating and managing budgets for a large, distributed organization; • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills; • Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy; • Sound strategic and analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills; results oriented; • Flexible and adaptive, able to respond appropriately in pressure situations with a calm and steady demeanour; • Solid negotiation and conflict resolution skills; • Demonstrated experience building teams and managing change; ability to build and maintain lasting relationships with other departments and key business stakeholders; • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written); • Proven experience with organization growth scaling is beneficial; • Ability to thrive in a fast paced and complex environment is essential; ability to juggle multiple priorities, navigate changing realities and work effectively with a range of styles and approaches; • Experience working in a non-profit, human rights, or advocacy organization is an asset; • Experience working with employees in multiple countries and with Employers of Record is an asset; • Professional working proficiency in French and/or Spanish is an asset.
