LOGISTICS MANAGER - Etobicoke, ON
Responsible for the strategic direction and leadership for the logistics department in pursuance of business goals. Includes development of procedures designed to increase productivity, assure quality, and mitigate production problems. This role is to effectively and efficiently manage the development and directions of the manufacturing team to drive the growth of revenue, technical productivity and promote high quality customer satisfaction while building relationships and ensuring the integration of strategic plans with company operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Plan and establish daily work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet daily production and customer shipping targets.
• Manage the day-to-day activities of the logistics team for each shift to ensure the teams have collectively achieved and met customer shipping expectations.
• Ensure that logistics schedule objectives are met while meeting quality standards in an efficient, effective, and timely manner in accordance with Health and Safety, Collective Agreement, Quality, ISO 9001-2015, Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement standards, and policies and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with custom regulations and NAFTA Agreement (US MCA).
• Onboard new freight partners and negotiate existing as well as new contracts and programs associated with them.
• Prepare production reports on a timely basis.
• Meet departmental inventory/reduction/accuracy targets.
• Ensure proper maintenance of lift trucks and all tools. Follow-up repair and maintenance.
• Maintain and control shipping supplies and labels.
• Ensure efficient utilization of storage space and shipment of products.
• Ensure all related Business Operating Procedures are followed.
• Continuously challenge past practices by actively exploring and implementing new solutions and methodologies to improve the quality and our product and services to the company.
• Instruct workers in safety, including the use of personal protective equipment, maintain proper housekeeping, recognize unsafe work conditions.
• Enforce company and safety rules, document violations and propose necessary disciplinary actions.
• Conduct safety talks, staff meetings, and department meetings.
• Ensure all staff trained and cross‑trained in various roles and standard operating procedures.
• Be involved in accident / incident investigation programs.
• Ensure current employees are trained on department hazards and safe operation of equipment.
• Monitor and ensure adherence to internal and external safety, quality, and compliance requirements on an ongoing basis. Ensure WSIB protocols are followed, reported and corrective action steps are taken. Strive to ensure 100% accident‑free days.
• Lean Manufacturing and 5S concepts awareness and adherence.
• Ensure harmonious union and management relationships by adhering to policies and the Collective Agreement. Provide recognition and coaching to staff on a timely and consistent basis throughout the shift. Conduct timely team meetings. Keep minutes; follow up on any issues raised in future meetings.
• Hire staff. Ensure newly hired staff are well oriented and well trained so that they quickly become productive team members.
• Proactively manage poor performance in accordance with policies, the Collective Agreement, and HR policies.
• Continuously improve processes.
• Adhere to Quality Management System, ISO 9001–2015, Lean Manufacturing and Environmental and Collective Agreement policies and procedures.
• Eliminate cost and/or waste through applying LEAN manufacturing and Continuous improvement suggestions. Continuously improve processes in ensure alignment with long‑ and short‑term strategies and objectives in an effective and timely manner.
QUALIFICATIONS

• A diploma or degree in logistics.
• A minimum of eight (8) years of logistics experience including a minimum of (3) years of supervisory experience in a packing, material handling and logistics environment, ideally in a furniture or store fixture environment.
• Proficient with computer applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel. Ideally, knowledgeable of ERP/Database programs.
• Effective leadership skills, with a strong focus on operations and business processes.
• Strong working knowledge and experience with implementing, managing and sustaining Continuous Improvement processes including lean enterprise.
