Accelerate the transition to a clean, low-carbon energy future
Welcome to DUNSKY ENERGY + CLIMATE ADVISORS! We are a mission-driven firm (B-Corp certified) focused on helping our clients accelerate the transition to a clean, low-carbon energy future. We didn’t come to this lately: we’ve been engaged in this mission for over 20 years – meticulously supporting leading governments, utilities, businesses and others across North America.
Our team of more than 60 professionals are whip-smart, kind, super-collaborative, fun, and deeply dedicated to our mission. They include a deep bench of analysts and subject matter experts (across buildings, energy, mobility, and industry), and a team of consultants able to translate findings and advise clients on the policies and strategies needed to make it happen. If you join us, you will be assessing opportunities for large-scale decarbonization; designing the programs, policies, and market strategies that can truly accelerate their adoption; and/or evaluating the performance of those strategies with a view to continuous improvement.
Of course, your success isn’t solely linked to impact. You want real opportunity to grow – professionally and intellectually. You’re at ease with a fast pace, but also want a reasonable work/life balance, because your weekends and evenings should by default be yours. And of course, you want to be properly compensated. We strive to offer all of these, because we know that your success is multifaceted, and because we only achieve our mission if our teammates are healthy, happy, energized and growing.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
For this position, we’re looking for an experienced professional (10+ years of relevant experience) with a strong track record of leading complex projects related to electricity system planning, markets, policy, and regulatory issues.
The ideal candidate can combine subject-matter expertise, technical rigour, strategic thinking, communications and leadership skills to deliver clear, actionable insights in support of utilities, system operators, regulators, and other key stakeholders across North America—often at the intersection of electricity planning, policy, decarbonization, and real-world implementation.
You are a proactive leader, a strong communicator, and a pragmatic problem solver. You are motivated not just by delivering analysis, but by shaping decisions that accelerate a clean, reliable and affordable energy system. You are comfortable operating at both the 10,000-foot level and diving into the details when needed—guiding teams without needing to own every model or analysis. You want to play an instrumental role in achieving the dual objective of both decarbonizing existing power systems and growing them – alongside growth in clean fuels – in order to support decarbonizing the broader economy (transportation, heating, industry and data handling). Impact matters to you.
Required skills and experience:
• 10+ years of professional experience in the energy sector
• Strong knowledge of Canada’s electricity systems and familiarity with U.S. markets
• Strong understanding of electricity sector policy, regulations, technologies, trends, key issues, and industry practices.
• Strong understanding of core electricity system analyses, including bulk system planning, utility Integrated resource planning (IRP) or equivalent processes including industry standard practices and emerging developments
• Experience overseeing or leading complex electricity modelling projects, including work involving load forecasting, production cost models, capacity expansion models, reliability assessments, and/or financial analysis
• Strong understanding of decarbonization pathways for electricity sector and the implications of electrification and cross-sector impacts
• Proven ability to act as Project Lead on medium-to-large engagements, setting direction, managing risks, and ensuring high-quality delivery across multidisciplinary teams; with the ability to guide teams, challenge assumptions, and interpret results (without necessarily building models directly)
• Strong experience with QA/QC processes, including reviewing complex analyses and deliverables for accuracy, consistency, and clarity
• Excellent communication and synthesis skills, with the ability to distill complex technical work into clear, structured, and decision-relevant insights
Value-adding qualifications:
• Consulting experience, including proposal development and client advisory
• Experience managing client relationships and acting as a key account manager
• Experience with transmission planning processes and modeling tools
• Experience with load forecasting, interregional planning, and integrated (economy-wide / multi-fuel) energy planning.
• Experience with buildings, transportation and industrial decarbonization
• Strong understanding of distributed energy resources (DERs) and their integration
• Strong understanding of electricity markets, including market structures and services (e.g., energy, capacity, ancillary services)
• Established network within Canadian utilities, system operators, regulators, or government bodies
• French communication skills*
• This position will involve constant and ongoing communication with employees and clients from across Canada and potentially beyond, including with individuals who may speak exclusively in English or (to a lesser degree) in French.
RESPONSIBILITIES
In collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, you will lead and contribute to high-impact projects for utilities, system operators, governments, and other key stakeholders across Canada and the U.S.
Our work is often at the forefront of the energy transition—supporting decisions that shape real-world investments, policies, and system evolution. You will support our clients with developing Integrated Resource Plans (IRPs), conducting resource adequacy and reliability assessments, developing market price forecasts, and other long-term planning functions to support their efforts in developing pathways for an affordable, reliable and clean electricity system.
You would take on a wide range of responsibilities:
• Projects: Lead delivery and strategic direction of major projects related to electricity systems either as Project Manager or Project Director. This includes client relationship management, internal team coordination, providing guidance analytical approaches, ensuring robust QA/QC of outputs and leading project deliverables (reports, presentations to clients, etc.)
• Clients: Act as a trusted advisor to senior clients, helping them navigate complex, often ambiguous decisions with clarity and confidence, and communicating robust, decision-relevant insights.
• Approach & methods: Define project approaches, methodologies, and analytical frameworks in collaboration with Dunsky’s subject-matter experts to ensure they are fit-for-purpose, transparent, and defensible, while balancing rigor with practicality.
• Business development: Lead proposal development in response to client solicitations as well as proactively identify and pursue opportunities aligned with client needs and emerging system challenges.
• Team leadership: Contribute to a strong and collaborative culture through collaboration with Dunsky’s subject-matter experts, mentoring and supporting team members, and serving as resource for technical guidance and problem-solving.
