Senior Reinsurance Accountant – Team Leader

We are currently supporting a confidential search for a Senior Reinsurance Accountant – Team Lead with a global insurance organization. This is a key leadership role within a growing Toronto-based reinsurance accounting function, responsible for both day-to-day operational oversight and technical accounting accuracy across a portfolio of treaty reinsurance accounts. The role will lead a small team and work closely with international stakeholders across Operations, Underwriting, Claims, and Finance, with a strong focus on accuracy, controls, and continuous improvement. Key Focus Areas • Lead and develop a reinsurance accounting team (workload management, coaching, performance) • Oversee technical reinsurance accounting activities (premiums, commissions, reinstatements, LOCs, etc.) • Support month-end and quarter-end close processes and ensure strong SOX/internal controls • Partner with global teams to resolve issues and align processes • Drive process improvements, efficiency initiatives, and KPI development What We’re Looking For • 5–8+ years of Non-Life reinsurance accounting experience • Prior people leadership or team lead experience • Strong technical knowledge of treaty reinsurance accounting • Experience working cross-functionally with Claims, Underwriting, and Finance • Strong understanding of SOX/internal controls frameworks • Advanced Excel and strong communication skills This is a strong opportunity for someone looking to step into a visible leadership role within a global environment.
