Reporting to the Senior Manager, Construction Accounting & Finance, the Senior Construction Accountant will play a key role in maintaining financial accuracy, supporting project execution, and driving strong cost-control practices across multiple active developments. Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
• Partner with Project Managers and site teams to validate costs, approvals, and supporting documentation
• Review and process construction invoices, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal controls
• Monitor project budgets through change orders, cost transfers, settlements, and ongoing cost tracking
• Help maintain strong financial controls across multiple active high-rise developments
• Coordinate monthly progress draw submissions and supporting documentation
• Collaborate with project teams, consultants, and lenders to facilitate timely funding and approvals
• Participate in progress draw and cheque release meetings to support project cash flow and execution
• Support month-end reporting, reconciliations, and financial analysis for active construction projects
• Analyze project costs, trends, and variances to support forecasting and decision-making
• Maintain budget tracking tools and project databases to provide real-time visibility into project performance
• Assist with cost audits, project closeouts, and the organization of key project documentation
• Develop and enhance Excel-based models, reports, and tracking tools to improve efficiency and accuracy; experiment with and leverage AI
• Support the implementation of accounting procedures, document controls, and best practices across project sites
• Partner with construction and accounting teams to streamline workflows related to tendering, contracting, invoicing, and cost management
The Ideal Candidate
• University degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
• Experience in construction accounting, project accounting, or a similar environment
• CPA designation or working towards completion is considered an asset
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage high volumes of data accurately
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across construction and accounting teams
• Self-starter with the ability to work independently in a lean, fast-paced environment
